expoDirekt, the Association of South German Asparagus and Strawberry Growers (VSSE), the organiser of the two trade fairs, expects more than 400 exhibitors from 18 countries and over 5,000 trade visitors from more than 30 nations to attend from 18 to 19 November 2026 at the Karlsruhe Trade Fair Centre. The 30th expoSE – Europe’s leading trade fair for asparagus and berry production, stone fruit cultivation and open-field vegetables – and the 15th expoDirekt – Germany’s largest trade fair for direct marketing in agriculture – will showcase a diverse range of innovations and tried-and-tested products and solutions.

“We are very pleased with the ongoing preparations for the trade fair. The entries for the Innovation Award and the announcements of new products show that companies are rising to the challenges facing the sector: extreme weather, cost pressures and staff shortages. There will be many practical new developments and improvements on display that will lead to savings in labour, resources and costs, as well as quality improvements in production and marketing. The diverse product range and the comprehensive supporting programme will ensure two intensive, inspiring and insightful days at the fair,” explains Simon Schumacher, VSSE Board Spokesperson.

What’s new at the industry platform for asparagus and soft fruit cultivation and direct marketing

Artificial intelligence continues to make inroads into the agricultural sector, enhancing precision in mechanical weed control, automated harvesting, crop protection and pest control. Optimised soil cultivation equipment ensures greater efficiency whilst reducing labour and energy consumption. Efficient irrigation management is also a key topic. Further developments in asparagus robotics – both in harvesting and in further processing – as well as innovations in berry cultivation on racks for more efficient and residue-free production are also on display.

expoDirekt will also showcase vending machines, self-service shops, digital farm shop management and payment systems, as well as further developments in this field. For shop fittings, the exhibition will showcase till systems, product display systems, as well as recyclable, moisture-resistant packaging and new ranges of jars for jams, spreads, cakes and desserts. Additional products such as non-alcoholic wines, chocolate-coated berries, seasonal confectionery and recipe books as gift items round off the range.

New products at expoSE 2026 – a selection:

Harlander Landtechnik from Aresing – Hall 1, Stand E19:
Tiller with hydraulic cleaner

Harlander has developed a hydraulically operated clearance mechanism for the FF-110 rotary tiller, which is controlled via the tractor’s hydraulic system. It enables quick and effective cleaning or clearing of the area between the housing and the rotor, thereby ensuring a reliable, efficient and clean working process. According to the manufacturer, the use of the hydraulic cleaner reduces the amount of manual labour required and shortens maintenance times. Furthermore, the lower power requirement reduces wear on the tiller and the tractor’s fuel consumption. www.harlander-landtechnik.de

Heuling Maschinenbau from Borgholzhausen – Hall 2, Stand K13:
Sand filler for pouch film

Heuling has developed a quick, cost-effective method for filling pouch film: the machine unrolls the film, which is welded with pouches as standard, opens the pouches and fills them with sand. The fill level is then checked and the film is rewound onto standard rolls. The machine can process standard 1,000-metre rolls (custom lengths available), as well as black-and-white film and thermal film. Only one person is required to operate the machine, to monitor the process and change the rolls. The filling speed is approximately 20 minutes per 1,000 metres. www.heuling.de

Einböck from Dorf an der Pram (Austria) – Hall 2, Stand M13:
Hoing machine with AI-supported camera for weed control within and between plant rows

The INVERA is Einböck’s first practical and cost-effective camera-controlled in-row hoeing machine for mechanical weed control within and between rows of crops. An AI-supported camera per row identifies the individual crops and transmits their positions to the hydraulically driven hoeing blades. These open specifically in the area of the crop and close in the space between the rows to mechanically remove the weeds present there. Additional tools can simultaneously work the inter-row area, ensuring that as large a proportion of the area as possible is mechanically tilled in a single pass. The exact machine design and configuration options are shown in the following explanatory video: https://youtu.be/HwuzSo4vRkE?si=uR_ucLDNBGKR49qB

Müthing from Soest – Hall 2, Stand M13:
New hydraulically driven mowing disc expands mulching systems

Müthing is expanding its portfolio with the hydraulically driven MU-FlexDisc 60 mowing disc for the MU-H Vario, MU-L Vario, MU-W and MU-O Vario mulchers. It can be used in row crops and special crops, agri-PV and PV installations, along field margins, guide posts and fencing. Thanks to its robust construction, pendulum-mounted blades and self-levelling suspension, the mowing disc ensures, according to the manufacturer, a precise cut, optimum ground adaptation and a uniform cut pattern. In combination with a mulcher, it enables highly effective vegetation control with high area coverage.

The MU-FlexDisc 60 is available in two versions, both with a diameter of 600 mm, and can be flexibly integrated into existing systems. It is now available as a rear-mounted attachment and will be demonstrated on the MU-O Vario, the mulcher for fruit and speciality crops. www.muething.com

EXA Computing GmbH from Hamm – Hall 2, Stand A22:
Automatically record and analyse the costs of each crop

EXA Computing GmbH is introducing a new feature of its manufacturer-independent telemetry and farm management solution ‘exatrek’: the automatic recording and analysis of crop cycles. A crop cycle combines the crop, area and time period into a separate data set with its own geometry. The exatrek T3 telemetry module automatically records all journeys and activities during the growing period and assigns them to the correct crop – even if several crops or plantings follow one another on the same plot within a single year. Inputs, diesel, machinery costs, machinery-related labour costs, as well as set-up and transport costs are reported per crop and field. This allows farms with specialised crops such as asparagus, strawberries or vegetables to see at a glance which areas are profitable and where costs can be reduced. As transport costs are shown separately, it is also possible to assess the maximum distance between the farm and the field at which cultivation remains profitable. www.exatrek.de

DVS Beregnung GmbH from Tübingen – Hall 2, Stand I23:
Software for planning the irrigation of asparagus and soft fruits

DVS Beregnung GmbH, exhibiting at expoSE for the first time, is presenting the ‘DVS Irrigation Planner Agrar’. This is a web-based planning software for irrigation systems in asparagus, soft fruit and open-field cultivation. The user maps out the area to be irrigated and enters details of the crop, elevation data, row spacing and the available water volume. The software then calculates the pipe sizing and pressure conditions, and generates a complete system configuration with a parts list. This reduces the design time to just 20 to 30 minutes instead of several hours. The parts list draws directly on the new Plug&Rain Agri range. This comprises pre-assembled filter stations, valve units and manifold assemblies that can be connected without the need for specialist tools. According to the manufacturer, this reduces installation time in the field by up to 70 per cent. The software will be available from November 2026, and Plug&Rain Agri from February 2027.

The company also showcases control technology for agricultural irrigation projects: Spherag, as well as Sky-Command and Wireless Valve Link from Hunter Industries, alongside solutions for fertigation and filtration. www.dvs-beregnung.de

RiverBox from Karlsruhe – Hall 1, Stand A32:
Automation of open-field irrigation

The RiverBox’s solar-powered flap control system replaces fault-prone diaphragm valves with a robust flap. Pressure surges in the pipework are prevented, as the RiverBoxes maintain a constant line pressure when switching between lines. Sudden changes in pressure, which indicate pipe bursts or sprinklers flying off their mountings, are detected by pressure and flow sensors.

The first flaps have already been purchased by the trial farms. They are versatile in their application: for increased night-time irrigation, frost protection, more finely tuned irrigation intervals or better control of the actual irrigation time. According to the manufacturer, in an average summer for irrigation, the RiverBox pays for itself within a year for most farms – as the most affordable models start at a fixed price of under 600 euros. They offer professional growers a 100 per cent authentic Mediterranean wild genome. According to the manufacturer, the system – which is the result of an optimised propagation process – delivers uniform, high-quality plant material on a large scale whilst significantly reducing unit costs compared to conventional potted plants. Despite its Mediterranean origins, A. acutifolius is characterised by remarkable frost hardiness (tested in Slovenia in the open field without winter protection down to −21.7 °C), meaning that farmers can reliably grow it outdoors even in colder regions of Europe. Wild asparagus is sold in bunches rather than by weight and is used more as a spice than as a vegetable. The plant is evergreen and can be cultivated using the same methods as green asparagus, but is far more hardy, requires very little water and minimal inputs, and remains productive for decades. Soil-free dispatch reduces packaging waste and transport costs whilst enabling worldwide export. https://www.trajnice.com/asparagus-acutifolius/asparagus-acutifolius-de

Böckenhoff Folien GmbH from Raesfeld-Erle – Hall 2, Stand K22:
Green asparagus netting to protect against insect pests

Böckenhoff Folien GmbH has developed the green asparagus net specifically for green asparagus cultivation and, according to the company, combines reliable plant protection with optimal growing conditions. It reduces the influx of asparagus weevils and other pests whilst supporting the straight growth of the asparagus spears. As a result, it contributes to quality assurance and yields up to 30 per cent more harvestable produce. The high-quality net is made of HDPE+, is white, has a weight per unit area of 75 g/m² and a mesh size of 0.5 × 0.5 mm. From 2027, it will be equipped with two cameras and a working width of 65 cm. The machine operates on the same principle as a conventional manual harvester. To prevent the two harvesting units from becoming overloaded when there are many stones in the ground – which could damage the gearbox – the harvesting units will be fitted with a slip clutch from 2027 onwards.

In addition, an option is available that allows asparagus to be harvested under mini-tunnels with M-shaped arches. An operator seated at the rear of the machine collects the harvested asparagus from the bed whilst simultaneously checking its quality. The machine, which can be used both day and night, is built on a compact frame, is powered by a rubber-track drive and a diesel engine, and is supported at the front by a swivel wheel so that it can rotate around its own axis. www.lommerstuinbouwmachines.com

Sylektis from Leuville-sur-Orge (France) – Hall 2, Stand L08:
Asparagus harvester for all varieties of asparagus

Sylektis is unveiling the AsperCut for the first time at expoSE – an asparagus harvester suitable for all varieties of asparagus. It is a hybrid-powered machine equipped with harvesting units and designed to be as simple as possible in order to minimise the number of components and feature robust mechanical parts suitable for intensive agricultural use. The quality of the asparagus is guaranteed by a proprietary harvesting method, in which the asparagus is transferred from the ground to the crates without the tips being touched. As all cutting units operate independently of one another, harvesting can continue with the remaining units should one robot fail. Its patented cutting tool ensures a clean cut for both straight and curved asparagus. According to the manufacturer, the AsperCut WH version has a harvesting capacity of up to 1,200 asparagus spears per hour and can harvest 4 hectares of white asparagus.

The AsperCut GR version can harvest up to 3,600 asparagus spears per hour and 10 hectares of green asparagus. With its three independent robots, the AsperCut GR harvests in three parallel rows at a speed of 1.8 km/h. When expanded to five parallel harvesting units, the speed can be increased to 3 km/h. Thanks to its artificial intelligence-based recognition system, the AsperCut can operate day and night. Harvesting takes place automatically, and the machine does not carry any operators. One operator controls several AsperCut machines to replace full crates with empty ones and to put the AsperCut at the start of its row into operation with the plastic cover. Following six years of development and numerous hectares of harvested land in France and Germany, the AsperCuts will be available for sale for the 2027 season. www.sylektis.com

Neubauer Automation from Welver – Hall 2, Stand K15:
Clean-up robot for the loading conveyor of the asparagus sorting machine

Neubauer Automation is presenting a world first at expoSE: the ASPAPOS tidying robot. Until now, the manual ‘tidying’ of asparagus on the feeding conveyor has required a significant amount of staff and, where the asparagus is laid unevenly, directly affects sorting quality. Spears that are crooked or lying too low, as well as multiple spears in a single compartment, can lead to sorting errors and an unnecessarily high proportion of rejects.

After placement, the robot positions the asparagus spears fully automatically and precisely – without any manual intervention. This ensures they enter the sorting machine perfectly aligned. At the same time, staffing requirements are significantly reduced. This provides a considerable economic advantage, particularly in the face of rising wage costs and a growing labour shortage.

In combination with the ESPASO sorting machine, as well as ASPALOAD and ASPASTORE, the ASPAPOS closes the final gap: from placement to removal, the entire sorting process is fully automated – with fewer staff required than ever before. www.neubauer-automation.de

Heuling Maschinenbau from Borgholzhausen – Hall 2, Stand K13:
Adapter for removing ground anchors for polytunnels

To enable the quick and cost-effective removal of anchors from the ground, Heuling has developed an adapter featuring two notched pins that utilise the existing holes in the anchor plates: these notches grip beneath the plate and reliably unscrew the anchor from the ground through a combination of twisting and pulling movements. This entire process takes place without any additional handling once the adapter has been fitted onto the anchor. According to the manufacturer, this takes approximately 20 seconds for a pair of anchors, including moving on to the next anchor. www.heuling.de

Vermako from Tielt (Belgium) – Hall 1, Stand A20:
New polytunnel for strawberry cultivation

At expoSE 2026, Vermako is unveiling Klimatube for the first time – a new polytunnel designed specifically for strawberry growers. The growing troughs are suspended directly from the arch, and the polytunnel requires no central supports. This creates free space for tending, harvesting and machinery. Alternating ridge ventilation ensures a balanced climate, even during hot summers. This enables growers to protect their plants and fruit from heat stress.

Vermako builds polytunnels for horticulture and canopies for industry and logistics. The family-run business is now managed by the second generation. www.vermako.com

FVG Folien Vertriebs GmbH from Dernbach – Hall 1, Stand E17:
Polydispersive greenhouse film for even light distribution

With its polydisperse technology, FVG-Folien is expanding its range to include an innovative solution for the efficient use of sunlight. The new polydisperse greenhouse films combine very high light diffusion of 75 per cent with a total light transmittance of over 91 per cent. With conventional diffusing films, the scattering effect can sometimes reduce light transmission. Polydisperse technology is designed to counteract this disadvantage. Its strength lies in the permanent and particularly uniform scattering of sunlight. This reduces direct sunlight and helps to minimise shading and localised overheating. Light and heat reach the plants more evenly, thereby creating more balanced growing conditions.

A more even distribution of light and heat can help to reduce sunscald and improve plant development and crop quality. At the same time, the thermal stress on the plants can be reduced. During hot summer months, the need for additional shading or ‘white-painting’ can also be reduced.

The polydisperse films are available in various designs and widths and can already be ordered for delivery from 2027. www.fvg-folien.de

4Disc from Dortmund and Thees Dammtec from Wardenburg – Hall 2, Stand M10:
Removing pest insects from strawberry plants

VENTURO is a product from Thees Dammtec GmbH, developed in collaboration with 4DISC GmbH. The operating principle combines targeted air movement with extraction: as the machine passes over the strawberry plants, a stream of air moves them and dislodges any pests present. Immediately afterwards, the dislodged insects are extracted from the plants by powerful fans and mechanically killed inside the machine. The first VENTURO machine for ridges has been in practical use in a strawberry crop since 2026. According to the manufacturer, practical experience to date shows very good results in reducing pest populations.

VENTURO thus enables a physical and mechanical reduction in insect pests without the application of chemical plant protection products. The method is particularly intended for pests relevant to strawberry cultivation, such as thrips, bugs and cherry fruit flies. At expoSE, a version specifically designed for rack cultivation will also be on display for the first time. www.4disc.de and www.thees-dammtec.de

Van Tuijl from Haaften (Netherlands) – Hall 1, Stand C10:
1.12 m strawberry tray for optimal use of greenhouse space

The 1.12 m Vatuplast strawberry tray was developed to make more efficient use of available greenhouse space. In greenhouses with a span of 4.5 metres, the standard sizes of strawberry trays – 1.00 and 1.25 metres – cannot be accommodated optimally. Van Tuijl has therefore developed a 1.12-metre tray.

The development process focused not only on the dimensions but on the entire cultivation process. The tray is designed so that drippers can be positioned directly on the trays. This allows water and nutrients to be delivered directly to the plants, contributing to a more even distribution of water and nutrients and, consequently, more uniform plant development.

The combination of dimensions specifically adapted to the greenhouse structure and the optimal positioning of the drippers results in a more efficient use of the available greenhouse space, more uniform cultivation and improved work efficiency. The tray can be integrated into existing greenhouse structures, enabling growers to optimise their cultivation system without the need for major alterations to the greenhouse. www.vantuijlpots.com

BIOGROW from Saint Cyprien (France) – Hall 2, Stand I14:
New growing medium with perfect particle homogeneity and high reactivity

BIOGROW, exhibiting at expoSE for the first time, is presenting its new ULTRA growing medium, which, according to the manufacturer, is characterised by perfect particle homogeneity and high reactivity: Every bag of growing medium behaves identically, with the same water distribution, the same air-to-water ratio and the same root environment across the entire crop series. The substrate responds quickly and predictably to irrigation decisions, allowing water to drain away when the grower wishes and retaining moisture when required. Together, these properties do not compensate for irrigation errors – they make the effects of every irrigation decision visible and consistent, providing the grower with genuine, reliable data on which to base crop management decisions.

The manufacturing process makes it possible to utilise the entire coconut husk. This means that a significantly larger proportion of the available raw material per husk is utilised, thereby reducing the product’s carbon footprint. www.bio-grow.com

DUMONA from L’ISLE D’ABEAU (France) – Hall 2, Stand H23:
Peat-free growing medium

This peat-free growing medium was developed over three years of research and commercial validation and is specifically designed for strawberry cultivation. It is based on a carefully balanced blend of wood fibres, coconut fibres and sieved, composted maritime pine bark. It therefore offers growers an alternative to peat-based growing media, whilst delivering performance comparable to that of conventional growing media. In addition to successful trials in France, it has also been evaluated in the United Kingdom and Switzerland. It is manufactured in France and can be supplied with a bespoke base fertiliser as well as in various packaging formats, including growing bags with customised cut-outs for different cultivation systems. www.dumona.com

EOD nanobubbles from Salo (Finland) – Hall 1, Stand B27:
Enrichment of irrigation water with high-purity oxygen in plant production

The technology company EOD Oy is presenting the Nanoboost® 2026 technology at expoSE. This is a fully integrated system for the continuous enrichment of irrigation water with high-purity oxygen for professional plant production. The technology was developed in close collaboration with Finnish scientific institutions, and its effectiveness has been proven in joint studies.

The system automatically generates oxygen directly from the ambient air and introduces it into the water highly efficiently and consistently using hydrodynamic cavitation. Unlike comparable devices, the cavitation process produces not only microscopically small nanobubbles, which maintain a consistently high oxygen content, but also oxygen radicals. These radicals effectively break down existing biofilm in the water pipes and keep the entire pipework system clear in the long term.

Improved root health and plant vitality significantly reduce – or even eliminate – the need for plant protection products. The technology thus offers a more environmentally friendly production alternative that meets the strict residue requirements of the food retail sector. Finnish horticultural businesses are already using the equipment and, according to the manufacturer, are recording double-digit percentage increases in crop yields as a result.

For a fixed monthly fee, growers receive the complete system, including automatic control, cloud-based remote monitoring, remote control, technical support and ongoing system optimisation. This transforms oxygenation from a complex investment into an easily manageable component of crop management. https://eod.fi/de/

Biobest Germany from Kissing – Hall 2, Stand H21:
Home-compostable breeding sachets for predatory mites

At present, farmers rely on single-use plastic sachets to breed and release predatory mites for biological pest control. These bags generate large quantities of non-recyclable plastic waste. This product is a sachet that can be broken down in domestic compost; it has been developed to replace conventional polyethylene in this application and guarantees the same level of plant protection.

This is the first sachet certified for on-site composting at ambient temperature whilst offering equivalent plant protection performance. It solves not only a waste problem but also a labour problem. Its uniqueness goes beyond material sustainability. At the end of the season, conventional sachets – including those that are industrially compostable – must be removed manually from the crop before shredding. This process takes more than 20 hours per hectare. As this sachet is home-compostable and contains no components that would contaminate the compost stream, it can be shredded directly with the crop. The step of manual removal is completely eliminated. This is a direct, measurable operational benefit for the farmer – not just a marginal environmental improvement. www.biobestgroup.com

e-nema, based in Schwentinental – Hall 2, Stand K17:
Biological additive for reducing copper in plant protection

2H13 is an additive that has recently been approved in Germany and Austria (BVL and FiBL). It consists of granulated cells of the yeast strain Meyerozyma guilliermondii 2H13. The biological additive enhances the efficacy of copper when used against oomycetes (late blight on potatoes, downy mildew on vines) as well as the efficacy of sulphur against storage scab and storage rot in apples. It is authorised as an additive to copper- and sulphur-based fungicides, as well as fungicidal single-site inhibitors, at an application rate of 0.05% in the spray mixture (0.5 g/l) in fruit, vine, vegetable and ornamental horticulture, as well as arable farming. According to the manufacturer, the application rate of copper can be reduced by approximately 30–50 per cent without any loss of efficacy. According to e-nema, the following improvements can be achieved when 2H13 is added: increased biological efficacy of fungicides due to improved spray behaviour and better adhesion of the active ingredients to the plant surface; and, in the case of single-site inhibitors, a delay in the development of pathogen resistance to these active ingredients. In particular, when 2H13 was used in combination with botryticides against grey mould (Botrytis sp.) in strawberries, the selection of multi-resistant strains of the pathogen was prevented, thereby improving the efficacy of the botryticides. e-nema.de

Hexafarms from Berlin – Hall 1, Stand A25:
Robots for plant health in protected strawberry and berry cultivation

With its plant health robot, hexafarms is presenting an autonomous scouting system for protected strawberry and berry cultivation. The robots navigate independently through polytunnels (‘Spot’) and greenhouses (‘Cruiser’ on heating pipes). They capture images of the plants via camera and link the images to climate and sensor data. In this way, the system detects fungal pathogens such as botrytis and powdery mildew, as well as pests such as spider mites and thrips on leaves and fruit, at an early stage. Infestation hotspots appear as a heatmap on a digital map. This is supplemented by damage thresholds for organic and conventional farms, an infestation forecast and recommendations for action. Beneficial insects are also recorded. The robots can be integrated without any structural alterations and are offered on a subscription basis. The system complements hexafarms’ intelligent yield forecasting system, which won an award in 2024, and is already undergoing an exclusive market launch at farms in partnership with Landgard. www.hexafarms.com

AGRARmitZUKUNFT Christian Berg from Ortenberg – Hall 1, Stand D27:
Measuring device for non-destructive leaf and sap analysis in strawberries

AGRARmitZUKUNFT offers alternatives to plant protection products. In collaboration with the French company Senseen, reference and calibration measurements were carried out on strawberries in 2025 and 2026. The system has been operational for measurements on strawberries since the summer of 2026. The parameters include: pH, electrical conductivity (EC), total nitrogen, phosphate, potash, calcium, magnesium, ammonium, copper, iron, silicon, zinc, boron, chloride, manganese, molybdenum and sodium. Based on the values obtained from the measurements of minerals and trace elements, optimisations can be made to ensure optimal plant growth, prevent disease, avoid deficiency symptoms, maintain nutrient balance, improve harvest quality, adapt to environmental conditions, ensure sustainable soil management, manage irrigation and reduce costs. The measurements are offered to growers as a service. https://agrarmitzukunft.jimdosite.com/

TopControl from Terlan (Italy) – Hall 1, Stand E24:
Packaging berries directly in the field or greenhouse

With delicate berries, every step counts. The Automated Gutter System (AGS) is an automated NFT gutter system for the hydroponic cultivation of lettuce and leafy vegetables. The troughs are automatically transported through the system and their spacing is adjusted to suit the space requirements of the plants at their respective growth stages. Planting and harvesting take place centrally at the front. In this way, the AGS combines high space utilisation with efficient workflows and reduced labour requirements.

In addition, LUBING GREENTEC is showcasing its fogging system for cooling and humidifying greenhouses. Fine water mist and direct evaporative cooling allow temperature and humidity to be precisely controlled. Different areas of the greenhouse can be controlled separately. Data is generated daily on every farm: in harvest records, field registers, invoices and bank statements. Hofsync automatically links and cleans this data, showing the farm which variety, which crop and which sales channel are truly profitable, and where money and resources are being wasted. To achieve this, the company has programmed rules for the industry’s standard systems on how to read and clean their data. This creates business transparency right down to the variety and field level, tailored to the realities of strawberry and asparagus farms. It is the result of three years of research and development, as well as field trials involving around 100 farmers across several countries. The stations transmit highly localised weather data directly from the field via the 4G mobile network. Where coverage is poor, they automatically switch to another available network. Thanks to multi-operator roaming, they work with local providers in every country, even in remote areas. Each station is powered by a solar panel and a new-generation battery. According to the manufacturer, a full charge lasts for 80 days and the battery has a lifespan of up to eight years. The stations have a modular design: a base unit with three sensor ports allows sensors (precipitation, temperature and humidity, wind, leaf wetness, soil moisture) to be added, upgraded or replaced as required. The data is updated every 15 minutes in the Sencrop app. The app offers forecasts from 20 weather models, frost and crop protection alerts, agronomic risk tools and irrigation management. www.sencorp.com/de

Pflanzentheke from Lorsch – Hall 1, Stand E13:
Fully automated, horizontal cultivation of fresh vegetables

With YAARD, the new product brand for professional vegetable cultivation, Pflanzentheke GmbH is unveiling a world premiere at expoSE: the horizontal cultivation system produces lettuces, herbs and leafy vegetables without soil and all year round – regardless of the weather and with consistent quality.
The key innovation is the fully automated cultivation process: irrigation and nutrient supply are centrally controlled and run autonomously. A central harvesting and packing station eliminates the need for movement within the greenhouse. This reduces labour requirements to a minimum and makes day-to-day operations predictable – a significant advantage, particularly where skilled staff are in short supply.

YAARD utilises existing infrastructure such as greenhouses, which are scaled to suit the available space and planned sales volumes. It transforms the post-harvest room into a phenotyping laboratory: every fruit is measured, every defect is classified and every plot is traceable – from a punnet of strawberries to a crate of courgettes.

The operator scans the plot’s barcode and arranges the fruit on the tray. Each fruit is weighed and photographed. Pre-trained and validated AI models measure morphology, colour, °Brix, weight and defects – without any setup or calibration. Marketable fruit is returned to its punnet, whilst fruit with defects is set aside. As the measurement is non-destructive, the sample remains available for the rest of the protocol. It is also possible to place whole punnets onto the tray, e.g. for shelf-life studies.

PhenoStation Harvest features three industrial sensors: a high-resolution RGB camera with LED flash, a high-spectral-resolution NIRS hyperspectral sensor and a high-precision networked scale (expandable sensor catalogue). There are two versions tailored to peak seasonal throughput: Pro (1 operator, approx. 80 kg of fruit per hour) and Plus (1 or 2 operators, approx. 105 kg per hour). The measurement time is approximately 15 seconds per tray per operator, and the training time is 30 minutes. The data is transferred directly to the customer’s information system on a plot-by-plot basis.

The PhenoStation Harvest is based on the PhenoStation® platform, which is already in use at industrial companies (e.g. Moët & Chandon, Alliance for European Flax-Linen & Hemp). The standout feature of TallyPay is the seamless integration of payment, access control and comprehensive farm shop management via ucOne – the software developed in-house by Gerd Thom GmbH. The core of this innovation lies in the interplay of all components to form a comprehensive solution that supports both the purchasing and the day-to-day operation of the farm shop. In addition, scales, electronic price labelling, digital signage, access control and loyalty cards can be managed and controlled, as can bookkeeping and reporting. The integrated software thus covers everything from technical processes on the shop floor to back-office administrative tasks. Operators can organise their farm shop on a decentralised basis and gain shared access to the various functional areas.

For customers, this approach is made tangible through a single rechargeable loyalty card. It enables both access to the farm shop and payment for purchases. The credit balance can be topped up flexibly at the in-shop terminal or via a website. This allows parents to provide their children with a shopping budget without having to give them cash or their own bank card. Children are given the opportunity to run small errands independently.

Its particular strength therefore lies in combining two perspectives: shoppers gain straightforward access to regional produce; operators receive comprehensive, in-house developed software to manage their farm shop. Particularly where the ‘ ’ farm shop is the last local supplier in the village, this combination supports its accessibility and day-to-day operations. www.gerdthom.de

LocaFox from Bielefeld – Hall 2, Stand K06:
A practical entry-level solution for automated retail concepts

LocaFox is expanding its self-checkout portfolio with a particularly streamlined and cost-effective solution. The innovation lies in the combination of laser perforation, a resealable zip and an integrated carrying handle in a single packaging solution. The laser perforation helps to extend the product’s shelf life, whilst the resealable design allows consumers to open and reseal the bag as required. The printable surface also provides an effective communication platform for brands and manufacturers, thus combining functionality, convenience and marketing potential.

The Cartonpack Group has developed and tested the Asparagus ZIP bag in collaboration with Kühling Fruchthandel. Solid board consists of several layers of paper firmly bonded together, making it compact, sturdy and resistant to moisture. It is therefore suitable for freshly harvested, moist produce and for the cold chain from the field through to the wholesaler and onto the shop shelf. The packaging solutions are tailored to packing, storage and logistics processes and, according to the manufacturer, ensure efficiency and reliable product protection throughout the entire supply chain. The range extends from crates and trays for direct marketing to transport packaging for the retail sector. The packaging is made from paper fibres, can be recycled via the waste paper collection scheme and can be custom-printed. It is designed to comply with the EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) and, unlike plastic, is not subject to minimum quotas for recycled material, for example. www.smurfitwestrock.com

ETIVERA from St. Margarethen an der Raab (Austria) – Hall 2, Stand I04:
New glassware range in a classic vintage style

The KLARA glassware range is a completely new glass design from ETIVERA.
